How to Remove Mold from Siding on Your House

The Mold-Removing Solution
Removing mold from the siding on your house requires only simple household materials. First, a spray bottle is recommended since the main components of the mold-killing solutions are chemicals that may be unpleasant to the skin. The solution itself is simple: 1 part bleach to 3 parts water. Wearing gloves, pour the water and bleach into the spray bottle, shake it up, and you’re almost ready to get rid of the mold or mildew once and for all. It’s important to note that while bleach will be the most effective chemical for removing mold from house siding, if you’re averse to it for any reason, a solution of 1:2 parts vinegar and water can be substituted instead. Regular 3% hydrogen peroxide can also be used if desired.
Spray and Scrub
Before you begin tackling the mold problem, grab a nylon brush and the garden hose. Since it is very unlikely that patches of mold or mildew are large or cover much surface area of the siding, spot-spraying should accomplish the task. Be careful not to get the bleach solution on plants or your clothing. After spraying, wait five minutes for any mold or mildew to be killed by the solution. The most important thing to remember when cleaning your siding is to not let the bleach solution sit for too long or else it may damage the finish. After the five minutes have elapsed, wet down the sprayed area with water and gently scrub until all of the mold is removed from the siding. Remember to fully rinse the solution from the siding, ensuring none of it is left to sit. It may be necessary to repeat multiple times until all of the mold or mildew is gone.
